This is the best Hardware store in the area, I needed two GM car keys cut and had been to multiple other Hardware stores they wanted $50-$100 to cut 2 keys unreal.
The owner of California Ave Hardware cut them for free. I highly recommend this store will definitely be back.

I've been here twice now since moving to the area; I'm so happy to have discovered it early on. Both employees I've interacted with were so kind & helpful. I was on a walk with my pup both times, and she was welcomed & even given treats. They have a great selection & fair prices. Highly recommend!

Had our luggages kept here while we explore California Ave upon arrival at Palo Alto. Micheal is very, very nice and helpful. He even had us stay inside the crew room to keep warm while waiting for our cousin to pick us up. This hardware has a lot of stuff, from houseware to hardware. You can even find back scratchers here. California Ave has long been home to great restaurants but totally lacking in hardware and homeowner goods. Cal Ave Hardware is great--the selection is floor-to-ceiling and the staff is very helpful. We needed some hardware for an oddball bike repair, and the local bike stores were a fail. Cal Ave Hardware had everything we needed and at half the price. The clerk had time and so helped us identify the hardware (3/8 x 24tpi) and find what we needed.

This place is awesome, I walked in not knowing that they had actually closed 15 minutes earlier but the owner was so welcoming and quick to help me find what I need. Humorous guy too, gave me a great deal, I was shocked to learn about the store's actual closing hours but he had just went out of his way to help me anyways! On a weekday night! Whatta guy, he's definitely a man's man. Would I come back for any hardware needs even if this store is way out of the way for me? Easy answer, of course, I would even take a bullet for this man. We built a DIY garden trellis from 3/4” electrical conduit pipe and some rebar. Mike the store manager offered to order all the right materials and pre-cut everything to size. It was so easy to assemble with all the pre-cut pieces. We were really happy with the personal attention and would definitely go there for any hardware needs.

Convenience rules sometimes. For those times, this location is great. They have a decent selection of most frequently needed household items, all at walking distance. Sure, their prices are a bit higher than big box retailers, but considering the energy or gas savings, it comes out either about equal, or cheaper.
