The Florida Retail Federation is a lobbyist with a lot of power in Tallahassee. Publix uses them to do their dirty work and they fight local communities over issues of plastic bags, Styrofoam and minimum wage increases. They presenting are suing the cities of Coral Gables and Miami Beach. If I was a business owner, I'd never consider being associated with them.

Absolutely abhorrent that a profit first organization is dictating how local communities regulate. If local communities democratically vote and the majority decide on how that community should be governed no business or organization should have any authority over that. If a community votes to ban plastic bags and Styrofoam because they live in a fragile eco-system and want to protect it, no private business should have say over that. You guys are the example of anti-democratic, and the reason why socialist will win.

It takes 500 (or more) years for a plastic bag to degrade in a landfill. The bag never breaks down completely, but instead photo-degrade, becoming micro-plastics that absorb toxins and continue to pollute the environment.

The choice you've made has literally had an impact that will last past your great-great grandchildren.

This is an abhorrent way to wield the power you hold over the retail industry and should be incredibly ashamed of this decision.

There is so much opportunity for you to be a force for good and help re-frame the argument around plastic bags that would help revive the failing retail store front industry, and you are failing them.

Please reconsider this atrocious decision and recognize the value banning plastic bags have.

If I could give you zero stars I would. Regardless of any of your positive actions on behalf of Florida retailers, your objection to straw and plastic bag bans renders your services inutile. As a state that relies on our environment to draw the tourism that runs our economy, we have to preserve it. You can lead, follow, or get out of the way. Drop the opposition to the bans.

A company that cares more about profits than the environment, hence their war against plastic bag and styrofoam bans. Gainesville was on the path to banning single use plastic and styrofoam containers until these greedy, money-hungry skins stepped in.

Picked up styrofoam/plastic bags again today off the beautiful Florida beaches and realized that is thanks to this horrible association. An entire ecosystem being ruined for profits? Starting a social media campaign against this association.

Local governance is the bedrock of our democracy no matter what side of the political line you stand on and the Florida Retail Federation has taken it upon themselves to sue Florida communities for enacting laws their citizens voted for. Like plastic bags or hate them, the Florida Retail Federation should not be stepping in to dictate how our communities our run.
