Per the Better Business Bureau (BBB), merchants cannot require a minimum charge on Debit Card transactions (minimum charge requirements/surcharges applies to Credit Cards only).

I bought apple juice at this store with my Debit Card and because I didn't meet the store's "minimum charge fee," the store clerk imposed a Surcharge on my Debit Card which was illegal (I found they could not do this after the sale. If I knew it was illegal at the time of purchase, I would not have purchased). What prompted me to research this is because after the sale, I looked at the charge on my sale receipt and it seemed a littler higher than usual. I was not informed by the store clerk before I bought the apple juice that the store clerk was going to apply a Surcharge because I did not meet the store's "minimum charge fee." I was only informed of this by the store clerk after I made the purchase when I returned to the store to make the complaint of the hidden, additional charge.

To offer a resolution, I stated to the clerk that I wanted to keep the apple juice, but to please just only refund the amount of the Surcharge which should not have been added to the cost of the apple juice. The store clerk refused to refund the illegal Surcharge, thus why I am making a negative Review here.

Also, the minimum charge fee requirement/Surcharge fee was not labeled on the Credit/Debit Card terminal that I used at checkout to inform me of the charge. So the fee was not only illegally charged to my Debit Card, the store intentionally hid the fee.

On a grand scale, the store is possibly collecting thousands of dollars per year from illegal Debit Card minimum charge requirements/Surcharge fees.

Also, on a separate issue. This is a convenience store, but I noticed on my itemized bank statement that they are listed as a "Taxi" business. Not sure if this business has updated their business category since then for the records, but it is important that this business be categorized properly to ensure the business is reporting all sales taxes correctly.

Don't expect any decent customer service here. They RIP off the poor with their in-store gambling. They're rude to even their regular customers. Watch out for their up-charges if using a card for small items equal to less than $3. Whether you are a new customer, or have been a regular for 2 years, they don't care. Ask for 5 seconds to get another small item to meet their $3 minimum, and they let everyone else in front of you. No respect, and even disrespect by their cashiers. If you don't want to feel cheated and angry when you leave this store, avoid it altogether! Take your business elsewhere!
