I was wandering around Carmel’s San Carlos Plaza when I noticed the little shop Bee, Bark & Moss. I am so glad I did! Such a gem for anyone who is looking for one-of-a-kind artisan creations. They have soft furnishings like pillows, throws and scarfs that are printed, woven and quilted in beautiful patterns and colors. Just gorgeous high quality fabrics... Once you step into the shop there’s an immediate feeling of calm and serenity. The owner is very welcoming and creates many of the designs with her family company. They also happen to carry high end vintage designer clothes by the japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto, what a find!!

I love this tucked away store so this is just some constructive feedback so that they stay in business. They have very unique items that are well worth the money but some things have an insane markup (like the Musubi cloths used for Furoshiki/bags)…125€ for a small polyester cloth when on the Japanese website it is 30$ US. Seems really steep. I want to patronize your business and would be happy to pay 60$ for that but 125$ is really a lot. I am a local and know Carmel is an expensive destination but I hope they would consider this because we have seen so many cool boutiques get replaced by T-shirt shops and wine bars etc. so we would like to see you stay.

They have a furnishings store as well as a small separate gazebo with handbags and face masks. My wife and I had breakfast next door at Stationæry and peeked through the store windows since they had not opened yet, and made it a point to return an hour later to check it out inside. We loved everything we saw from the face mask, hand bags, rugs, quilts, and all sorts of textiles hanging from the wall. They also carry products that look artisanal like soaps, leather accessories, essential oils. The Japanese lady and English gentleman inside were kind and informative about their products and not overly assertive. We ended up purchasing a quilt for our bed that was hand made by their friend Ondi in the Kahdi style in India. What’s even more special is that all the pieces from the quilt were scraps from other apparel pieces, cushion covers, and the like. The quilt has beautiful wood block printed patterns in indigo dye. I think it’ll be great for the warmer seasons, and a definite centerpiece. I will update this post with photos once we have it set in our bedroom.
