This place was great! I had no idea that ore was mined here for borax. You get to stand next to a dump truck and one of their tires to get a good idea of how large the machinery is. Definitely worth the trip. You will actually drive through the mining camp to get to the visitors center.

Really neat place to stop and get some history of the area. The museum was neat and there was a short video to see. Marlin was our guide and he was so nice.

The visitor center is nice & has some interesting information, but the view overlooking the open pit mine is truly impressive. The staff are friendly & informative. Our 12 & 14 year old sons enjoyed it- especially the huge dump truck.
NOTE: The road leading up to the visitor center is steep, curving, dirt road! It was intimidating , but I made it up & down fine in our conversion van & travel trailer.

Interesting free mining and factory tour. We were only people there right when the visitor center opened at 9am. Amazing views of largest pit mine in CA. Cool models and great video that explained what is being done at this factory 24/7 along Hwy 58. 1 hour is enough time to learn about Borax mining. We've driven by countless times, so really wanted to stop and see it up close.

We went to the Borox Visiter Centet recently and had such a great time! The visitor center itself was very clean and maintained, and the restrooms were very clean. What was most impressive is that they have tour guides there and at least a couple that I spoke to actually worked in the mines! My tour guide Jim was there 41 years! And he knew so much no matter what questions I ask him he knew the answers. There were so many historical facts as well as exhibits. So very informative! They also have an outdoor area that you can go to this overlook and see the mine. There are also picnic tables to have a picnic.

Good spot to stop and stretch your legs during a long drive. If you have young kids they'll enjoy watching the giant dump trucks driving up and down the mine. They operate 24/7 so you can't miss them.

Very interesting and Marlon, one of the docents is very informative and friendly. There's a wonderful museum and many displays as well as a gift shop. We drove our 35 ft 5th wheel and truck up the fairly steep road about half to 3/4 of a mile and there's plenty of room at the parking lot at the top to park and turn around .....providing there aren't an abundance of vehicles already there........and a weekday is recommended.

Driven past the plant forever and decided to stop in finally. Enjoyed the pictorial history of the Borax plant on display, the 15-minute overview movie, and our guide who worked there for decades. One note: you have to go up a dirt road for about 1/4 mile to get to the visitor center.
