My family and I have been coming to the store for years. We love it. Great clothes, fun stickers and patches. Always a good experience. We’ve ordered online several times as well and sometimes needed staff help to complete the order because of issues on our end, and they were so helpful and nice. Great business!

So disappointed. We received a pair of sweats for my husband and they were too small. I let Ethan know this, and sent them back this past Friday. It was $20 to send them back, which I couldn't believe! But that was the cheapest option. The sweats were $42. I called the store before I left the post office because I couldn't believe how expensive it was, and asked if there was any way to get that refunded. The associate couldn't believe it either, and said she couldn't guarantee anything, but would let Ethan know once he was back in the store.
I heard back from Ethan a few days later regarding the refund just for the sweatpants. We agreed he would send me some other alternative sizes via email. I told him we liked the quality of their clothing and would also be looking at other types of things to buy from their store. He made no mention of refunding the shipping fee, so I told him that when I called Friday, I had left a message with the associate about refunding the shipping fee.
His response was whenever he ships anything it's always 7 or 8 dollars, and that they ship all over the country. I told him I was surprised also with what I had to pay but was told that was the cheapest way. ( I was just at the post office, no where fancy) His response was that they were a small family owned company and whenever a customer sends anything back it is always on their dime. Then said again it "is always 7 or 8 dollars to ship things". His tone was defensive and almost like he didn't believe me. I told him I could email a picture of my shipping receipt, and asked if there was any way they could just give me a refund of the difference from what it cost me to ship ($20) with what it "should" have costed, which was "$7-$8. He was not interested. I told him I didn't think I wanted his email after all with alternative sweats ideas for fear of having to spend another $20 to send them back (or any other piece of clothing we were interested in).
I was very polite but completely shocked that he didn't even offer a partial refund. This lack of customer service shows me they are simply not interested in new customers and/or just don't really care about customer satisfaction. I was in retail for awhile, so I know customers can be a pain. However, I was super polite, and for a "small family owned business", I just can't imagine not wanting or needing new customers.

I love this store and the home store next door. I have always had great experiences. They are accommodating and even call you back if they get an item back in stock that you were eyeing. I saw a wine glass in the home store but there was only one left. They called me as soon as more quantity were in stock. I had actually even forgotten about it so I was so surprised and happy they called. The reality is it is very hard to staff stores in expensive tourist areas especially during the low season. When going to towns like this you have to understand that some shops may have to close during lunch. Just be patient if they are closed, go back later or check out their online store.

I’ve been a big fan of California 89 for many years. I bought my first sweatshirt from them at a booth at Palisades years ago, and was excited to visit their store in Truckee. The clothes are fun and representative of many of Tahoe’s outdoor activities. They’re also very durable. In addition, I’ve experienced great customer service using their online store. It’s a must stop for us whenever we’re in Truckee.

No lines, no waiting on your online Store, your Customers with ZERO patience should use it too its fantastic and I loved the discounts on items I was looking for, I only needed 1 but I ordered 3. The quality of your clothing and the artwork fits in my NC Mountain surroundings. Keep up the good work and know you're appreciated far and wide and try to ignore the entitled people.

I have been coming to this shop since it opened in 2012 - and from Seattle no less, when I make my annual trip. I remember walking in the first year Lisa (owner) opened it, loving the overall vibe and concept. It is still my favorite and my go to. The service is always friendly, inviting, and I am still amazed at how the assortment changes year to year. The CA89 Home shop is equally awesome. Highly recommend that as well.

For the reviews on here criticizing anything about the hours or the inconsistency of the shop being open, I would like to offer a little perspective: I am one of the patrons who understands that this is a small shop, in a small(er) mountain town. That means there can be, at times, an ebb and flow to their busy/peak season and the slower/shoulder season. So yes, there may be some days where something has come up and the shop is unexpectedly closed or late to open (this happened to me one year, and I have never visited a small town where this has NOT been the case). Additionally, this shop is NOT alone with staffing challenges given folks who actually work the frontline jobs in the town cannot afford to live there. Do I choose to take it out on the shop in a review? No, I don't. I either come back later, plan to visit next time or ... novel idea ... visit the Web site and place an online order.

This is an awesome shop at the heart of what makes Truckee special.

This store is stunning. I go several times a year and always walk out with something beautiful. Don’t miss it if you are in the area. Also have ordered on line. I want them to design my house.
