The Good:
Everyone I’ve interacted with at Carmax has been really nice. I haven’t met anyone who wasn’t polite or who didn’t try to be helpful, even when they couldn’t fix the issue immediately.

The Bad:
I bought a vehicle on a Friday afternoon, and after signing all the paperwork, it took nearly 2 1/2 hours for them to release the keys. They kept saying it would only take another 5 to 10 minutes, but I ended up being late to pick up my son from the bus stop.

The Ugly:
The vehicle I bought had bad brakes. I noticed it on the drive home when the steering wheel started shaking on the highway. I called Carmax immediately, and while they were nice, they told me to bring the vehicle back on Monday since their service department wasn’t open on the weekend. After confirming the brakes were bad, they said they needed to order the parts and sent me home with the same car, bad brakes and all, after their supposed 120-point check.

Once the parts arrived, I was given a loaner car that reeked of cigarette smoke. I dropped my car off on a Thursday, and they couldn’t get the work done on Friday, so it sat all weekend. On Monday, I called for an update and was told they were short-staffed and it wouldn’t be done that day either. Now it’s Tuesday, and despite several calls, I still haven’t heard back from my service provider.

While I love my 2021 Honda and think it’s a great vehicle, this whole experience has been frustrating. For a place that prides itself on thorough inspections, I would’ve expected better service. All I want is to drive the car I paid for!

Every aspect of the purchasing process was excellent!! From browsing inventory, speaking with staff, & eventually purchasing a vehicle was so easy! No “car salesman “ pressure or games. I was kept in the loop through every single step of the process through phone calls, texts & emails. CarMax has a great 10 day money back trial period & an impressive 4000 miles/90 day bumper to bumper warranty. Would definitely recommend & consider purchasing from them in the future.

Best way to buy a used car. No haggle pricing and great customer service. When there was an issue with the car we bought they refunded our money without question and we bought a different one.

The process of transferring a vehicle from one city to another was very easy and I love that the transfered vehicle is on hold for you until you either purchase or release it. The buying experience left alot to be desired. We had an 11:00 am appointment for the test drive but we weren't seen until a little after 12:00. Once we decided this was the vehicle for us it took another 6 plus hours to finalize the paperwork. The easiest part of the over 7 hour day was the financing which was done at our own bank, not at CarMax.

We loved our experience at Carmax! Dang was super helpful and fun to work with. Carmax had a huge selection of cars so it was a one-stop shop for us. We were able to look at, get into, and test drive all the cars we were interested in looking at, which saved us so much time!! No running around to a bunch of different dealers. They also have a very competitively priced and generous warranty program, which takes a lot of anxiety out of buying a used car. We will definitely shop Carmax from now on for our car needs!

After spending almost 6 hours for their incompetent employees to realize they also have to sign the sale paperwork for it to actually rerecorded by their system, we now have found out they didn't bother to file the Time of Sale Report to the IRS. Through their continued ineptitude they cost us thousands of dollars on top of one of the most miserable sales experiences of our lives. Only go if you are an experienced dealer willing to do their job for them.
