I have seen first hand what all the negative press is about. This is my experience at the downtown location..
You will see employees leaving and empty offices all over. You will see older people waiting around just to hope to get in the few allotted hours to see someone. I found front desk people that blatantly would not give VETERANS any appointments..The only option you have is to be here between 7-730 AM or do not come at all.. This is wrong.THIS IS MILKING THE SYSTEM 101!
One clinic (I took a sheet with the hours) had hours clearly stating: 11 AM TAKE LUNCH - 2:30 PM closed. I said is this a joke?
OK, Now the time is 10 until 2PM we visited 3 clinics aimlessly. We did waste our entire day because the angry lady in admissions wanted to leave early and did not accept or approve a VA -ID with all the paperwork in order. How can you receive a medal and be told blunt:
YOU ARE NOT A VETERAN!!

I went to get my blood test and there was no parking available. I drove past the valet lot and there was plenty. If this happens I go to the valet lot. There was a guard there this time who tried to stop me from parking. He said he'd have my car towed. I told him I was cutting through and parked. I went inside I was seen right away. I was stuck three times in each arm. I came out and a cop had me blocked in. He wrote me a ticket for disorderly conduct. I asked him why and he said if there is anyone who interrupts the flow of business we'll write a ticket for disorderly conduct. He said it wasn't that I parked there but it was because I cursed the guard out then parked. I'm going to court. The guard lied on me. Update. The officer never showed up. I paid $45 for parking in the valet area.

Officer badge number 933 Lieutenant Howard should be immediately fired for assaulting, illegally detaining, and kidnapping and not protecting a fellow veteran and wasting taxpayers dollars by leaving a vehicle running. We the people don't need officers like this on the force.

After all of the horror stories from other VA offices, I was reluctant to go in to this one. But I was amazed by how polite and helpful this office was. The gentlemen at the front desk were courteous and attentive to everyone that came in. I filed some paperwork in a mater of minutes and I was on my way. Definitely recommend this office!

This is the VA Regional Office of Houston. VA Medical Center is across from Mixon Avenue, look for red or blue roof lots. You can't park here for doctor appointment. Police patrols this area constantly.
