Their food is fantastic. They are always kind and hard working. Their location uses to be a market of sorts that was super run-down, dank, and smelly. The owners of el campeon cleaned it up and made it much more hospitable and cleanly. The bathroom is well maintained and clean. Their menu has a little bit of everything for everyone and they do well on every single dish I’ve had. They are also quite reasonably priced. They have a selection of daily specials that are on sale or limited time. They employ a very hard working and kind young man that has autism. I have read some reviews that bash on him for being “strange” or “in a rush”. Overall the establishment is kind and hard working with great food!

Update 2: Cheese in enchiladas were melted this time. Beans were lacking this time. Homemade chips now, pretty good, just too much spice. Excellent service every time. Friendly and attentive.

Update: Have plates for your meal now. Enchiladas were not spicy anymore, and just right. The cheese could have been melted a little more, but still delicious. Hamburgers are huge! Nicely seasoned fries. Delicious food at a great price! Love all that I have tried. Favorite is the chicken quesadillas! Lots of juicy chicken and tons of flavor. It is huge as well. Chips are not homemade. Mild salsa is hot! Enchiladas sauce is hot! Drinks available to purchase, but is bottled and not fountain drinks. Have a salsa bar. Kids menu available.

I loved my pollo salad. My friend wasn't impressed with his shrimp or fish tacos, but thought the carnitas one was great. We both loved the salsa cart. Everything was fresh, and the pico de gallo was excellent.

What a great little restaurant! Definitely much needed in this growing community! Friendly service and our food was ready quickly!
We ordered the taco platter, carne asada burrito, and birria tacos enchilada style. The meat was very good quality and very little to no fat!! I was very impressed with the quality of beef offered The birria meat was excellent flavor with just a bit of zing/kick!
I found the beans to be overly salty and I could not eat them. They were smooth and had a nice creamy texture, but the salt was over powering. The rice was cooked just right, but needed something a bit more to make it seem more than plain white rice.
The enchilada sauce was also a little salty. The corn tortillas were fresh and had a nice flavor/texture. The salsas were good and they had a few varieties available in a salsa bar. Fresh lettuce and tomato were nice addition to the entire meal.
Overall very impressed with this newly opened restaurant!! We will return and try more menu items. There are certainly many options available!!

So I wondering how this place has 4.5 stars!? Upon reading the reviews it seems like all that had 5 stars were from about a year ago. A majority of them anyway. And I just moved to the area not long ago so I'm guessing that's maybe when they first opened up this location? Anyway, It's not a very big place and the lighting wasnt all that great. There are a couple of booths and a few very small tables. No soda fountain ,you can choose a bottle or can drink from the cooler in the dining area. There are no menus or even a menu board, just a couple (6) pieces of paper stapled together and taped to the front counter. They also serve pizza and wings not just Mexican food.I think they We ordered the sampler plate which came with 2 carne asada tacos, a cheese quesadilla and 4 chicken wings. As well as 2 fish tacos and 2 bottles of soda. Which we (over)paid 36$ for. I didn't really mind the price because I'm all about supporting small/locally owned businesses, but the food definitely was not up to par. First issue being that we ordered the fish taco on a flour tortilla, we got an over cooked corn tortilla, instead of making it right the girl asked what did I want her to do get another one? The fish was overcooked and very bland, obviously had been frozen. The carne asada wasn't much better. The taco shells fell apart as soon as u picked up the taco. When we asked for hot sauce the young girl serving us explained that we would have to get it from the "salsa bar", which I had no idea that it even existed since it was located awkwardly right when u very first walk in and was all closed up, the red and green sauce were both very watery. The quesadilla, was pretty big and it was alright nothing special though. And finally when we were finished with the tacos our four wings came.....and you can see for yourself what those looked like in the photo. They were definitely just thrown together it looked as if someone just poured the bbq sauce over the chicken and that's it,unfortunately tasted no better than they looked. The best part of the meal was the bottled Mexican soda which was super disappointing considering we Paid 40$. The young girl at the counter was very polite and had a smile on her face which is always a good thing, but the gentleman who brought us out the wings seemed like his mind was elsewhere and was very rushed. Again, this place has a 4+ star review so I'm sure that at some point they did have excellent food so maybe the cook changed? I dont know but seems like since opening this location it has gone down hill. Hopefully this review will open some eyes and maybe make some positive changes. I'm not sure that I'll be going back here ever.

The food has always been decent but my husband called tonight to place a takeout order and it was as if the girl who answered was drunk or high. She asked him his name 5 times. It’s Jeff. Not that hard. Then she asked him if he can be there in 10 minutes. Then asked if he could be there in 5 minutes. Then after wasting all this time said she could take his order. He tried to order a carne asada taco salad. She said they don’t have taco salads on the menu. He said it’s on the menu on the website. She then asked him to tell her what’s in a taco salad. WTH? He just hung up. Something weird is going on over there. If they’re like that on the phone then I’m afraid to eat their food.

It's been a while since I've been able to enjoy good Carne asada tacos without traveling to the Southside of Tucson or Mexico but El Campeon has given me the flavorful tacos I've been craving with the Convenience of being just down the road
The place has a laid back vibe which I love, the sodas I miss and comfortable booths. We were immediately greeted by friendly staff and I could pay with Google pay (a big plus in my book) we were told where to find the sodas and bottle opener and to help ourselves to the condiment bar which was fresh and had everything I needed to make my Carne asada tacos just like I love eating them
My husband had the chile relleno plate and I had a bite of the relleno and it was very flavorful and plenty of gooey cheese
We were told they're working on getting their liquor license for the bar they have (with a flat screen tv) and several other ideas they're brain storming
So if your like me and prefer to spend your hard earned money on small family owned businesses mom and pop shops, independently owned small shops....try El Campeon where the food is good and the friends are waiting with a smile.
