The entire process from registering to obtain a permit to actually getting a permit is atrocious. It is faster to watch 100 layers of a paint dry than to get anything done in a reasonable timeframe. Do not expect it to be an easy process. Do not expect any professional level of customer service. Just don't expect much from Hernando County Building Services besides a headache.

This is what we pay taxes for! Worst office I have ever called no one returns your calls. Can’t get any status for permit applications! Customer service people are rude as hell! Supervisores don’t answer their calls and don’t call you back either. Absolutely useless in this office

I applied for a permit when Hernando County was subjected to a cyber hack. The ladies and gentlemen in the office are doing their best. They're working very hard. It's a stressful time, but I just want to say be kind to the ladies and gentlemen. They're good people. I got my permit issued and I want to thank all those involved. The permit portal has been down since April of this year. 99% chance you call and they won’t answer. When trying to check on inspections they refuse to tell you any information and give you the inspectors phone number. The problem is the inspectors are busy doing inspections and don’t have time to answer the phone or call you back. After reading reviews it seems like across the board everyone is having the same issue.

IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DO BUSINESS WITH HERNANDO COUNTY.

Unfortunately homeowners are the ones getting screwed by this catastrophe because final inspections are not getting closed out.

How do we hold Hernando County Building Department accountable for such acts of business?

Their customer service is terrible. The zoning department never answers their phone. It always says they're busy even at 7:30 in the morning when they just open everybody's too busy to answer the phone. We pay the county salaries. Just so we can follow the rules that they make up we paid to put ourselves out of business

I just had the most outstanding customer service I have ever experienced with in a County/Government type setting especially in regards to a young lady named Heather Colford. The county is currently experiencing an outage that is impacting their day to day activities. I had a huge issue as I am approaching a deadline and I needed my building permit but that was stuck in digital limbo due to the server disruption. I posted on their "contact us" page and with in MINUTES I had a call from the manager of the department and then immediately from Heather herself asking me to come in ASAP and they would do what they could to support me. I went in the very next business day and Heather walked the entire thing through manually and gave me my permit before I left... I was blown away and beyond appreciative. PLEASE remember, you're not the only one that is affected or impacted by this awful situation and everyone is trying their best to support the community. Please try and be calm and rationale and remember the person behind the window or desk want to help you but it's not their fault if they can't. be kind, be respectful, and you'll most likely get all the support you need.

If anyone ever gets the idea of filing a complaint about someone building a permanent structure on a concrete slab and installing electricity without a permit "forget about it". The county will not enforce it or fine the individual. Also they will have a lame excuse
for possible code violations and just give it a "final" approval.
