Fun nostalgic place. Old school candy, wooden floors that creak when you walk. 2 levels. Toys and jellies you won't find anywhere else. Books, postcards, magnets, shirts. There's a whole hiking section. Parking deck next door.

What a fun place! Great selection of nice clothing and shoes for men, women, and children. Great camping and hiking supplies too. There is also a fun old time candy store right there in the general store. For a trip back in time you have to check out the Mast General Store

Great modern day store with a old general store fill.. Have all the knickknacks and candies you'd expect with modern camping gear, clothes, knives, and other neat things. There are 2 stories, the downstairs is shoes, clothes and a knife section. Staff are super nice and helpful. Great place to just check out. We were told to and happy we stopped in.

Has great gift ideas. It's a little pricy on some things, but decent prices are on a lot of things. There are so many things to look at and memories of your childhood. You will definitely walk out with something.

We happened on this place as we were driving thru Winston, and decided to check it out. While most items are fairly high dollar, and high quality, we got a lot of delight in finding a sesame candy that took us back to our childhood. This was a fun location to visit.

Mast General was founded in 1883 and still has the feel of an old time general store. They still sell a few items that have been around for decades.
Barrels of bulk hard candy are a favorite with our kids. They also have a nice selection of pottery, kitchen ware, specialty sauces, jellies, jams and mixes.
Their primary focus is clothing. Upstairs focuses on casual clothes, while downstairs features footwear for men, women and children, and clothing for the outdoors. They also carry a range of outdoor gear: tents, hammocks, backpacks, hiking and fishing essentials, knives and axes, and almost anything else you might need.
Their Christmas selection is limited, but cute this year.
And of course they have a selection of Winston Salem souvenirs.
There are nine locations to choose from across Virginia, Tennessee and North and South Carolina.
