My daughter wanted to go to Mekong Supermarket due to a Tik Tok trend regarding their Mango Ice Cream.

I thought just a supermarket...NOPE! It was an adventure in experience for us in the most exciting way.

Mekong was located in the Asian District of Tempe, which had a plethora of restaurants and store you can shop all this is attach to Mekong Supermarket via Mekong Plaza.

Having all the shops and restaurants interconnected was a plus due to Arizona heat. You do not need to venture outside to enter these shops...restaurants. Yet, you could if your intent was to head directly to one of the restaurant. If you where there just mosey than Mekong Plaza is the destination.

We stop first at Tea Avenue I had the Ragin Orange...so refreshing! My daughter had the Supernova Tea aptly name since it was a brightfully punchy delicious.

After we venture into Mekong Supermarket pick up the Mango Ice Cream (worth the 40 minute drive)

Ending our venture at Sweet Time Bakery and we truly enjoyed an Asian sausage wrapped in sweet bread...with other pastries purchased.

A most happy way to spend a Saturday.

This place is so great. It’s like visiting another country. The Mekong market has really good prices. I love their produce their mushrooms, their meat and all kinds of rice vinegar and things like that for Chinese cooking.

Also, the plaza has all kinds of little restaurants, a bakery that is so good

I’m at Mekong plaza, at the dim sum place. It’s great- the quality and ambiance could be plucked out of Monterey park in Los Angeles, complete with retired ladies gossiping in Cantonese at the table next to me “yum cha”ing, a char siu bbq rack takeout line, a handful of boba and shaved ice places, and your neighborhood Asian travel agency. The only difference is that it’s far less crowded and sparkly clean floors here. I ordered just a few staples to test to basics since it’s hard to sample if by oneself at a dim sum restaurant: (1) pay-Dan jook thousand year old egg, (2) har gow (3) siu mai. Very fresh. I’d give it a 4.5/5. Not over steamed, if only just slightly (I’m picky). Good dense portions of chicken/pork and egg pieces in the jook, generous size and ample pork in the siu mai.

The supermarket is great, very expansive. Large fresh seafood and produce section. So many frozen bao choices it’s mind boggling. Has all the sauces and more. Generally many Cantonese, Vietnamese influences. I can’t really recognize other types of Asian so can’t comment beyond that.

I highly recommend coming to visit. Now as I type, people from one table are getting up to make a social call to another table. It’s very much a community atmosphere here. I just heard heavy toi-san accent…it’s like I’m being transported back to my childhood sitting at yum cha with my grandparents

Mekong Plaza is the central hub for the Asian community. It offers a wide variety of restaurants, grocery stores, and all the conveniences you’d expect from a well-rounded Asian shopping center. If I had one complaint, it would be about the restrooms. Considering the size of the plaza and the heavy foot traffic, you’d expect the facilities to be better maintained. The smell around the restroom area both inside and nearby is unpleasant, and the cleanliness is often not up to par.

Lots of neat stores. The restaurants inside and out smelled amazing. Cool place to check out if you're hungry. It's not too big but a good size place to check out stores. Great dessert and beverage stores. Bathrooms are not the cleanest. Parking is tight during the weekends so expect to wait a while for a decent parking spot. Overall, neat place.

Excellent Asian market with fresh meats, seafood, produce, and a bewildering assortment of products. I spent well over an hour just walking up and down every aisle. At least half of the items I had never seen before. So many different types of items. There's even a place to sit down and eat. The public washrooms are down the hall in the mall.
