Rude. Came in with my nine month old looking for one thing. The lady at the front desk was cold and unwelcoming. She had a dog laying on the checkout counter when she asked me if I needed any help; I told her what I was looking for and her stupid dog started barking and growling like it was going to try to attack me and my son. THE LADY DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO STOP OR CALM HER DOG DOWN. As if she didn’t care! What’s wrong with you?! We left immediately and will never be going back, there are plenty of wonderful Asian grocery stores run by great people who want your business! DO NOT GO HERE!!! 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Honestly I hate giving bad reviews but for safty reasons I think I need to. We have tried to come here twice. The first time the dog just barked at me and my 2 kids. Welp the 2nd is our last. My oldest was with me and far from the dog it started to growl bark and then tried to jump off the counter at him. When she grabbed the dog it started bitting at her. If you know your dog is unfriendly you shouldn't bring them to work with you. This could have ended really bad. I wish I would have read the reviews before going. Please do not bring your family in there.

I was looking for a place to purchase 2 lbs of mint for an upcoming event on short notice, and the lovely owner placed an order with her mint supplier and got them to me right on time! She was even texting me with updates about my mint, going above and beyond. The mint was fresh and perfect and we even got to pet the sweet shop dog.

Writing a review so people have more recent experiences to go off of:

Newer to Melbourne and haven't really explored my Asian market options. Read reviews on this place before I went, and went anyway to check it out for myself since I was in the area.

The vicious dog people keep mentioning lifted it's head up when I walked in and the entire time I was there just laid on the counter napping- even when I went to check out, no barking, snapping or biting.

The prices were admittedly high, I had gone to Jason's produce down the road beforehand and could compare the prices of similar things I saw around. I ended up buying three things. (Sesame oil, a 4-pack of ramen, and some Szechuan peppercorns) and the total added up to almost $30. To compare, I bought 6 items at Jason's and spent the same.

The products were 50/50 on whether they were priced or not. So it's really a gamble when you pick something up that doesn't have a price, but pretty much expect a higher price than you would usually think. There was a good amount of seemingly homemade items in the store as well, those were priced out and are in either the pint containers or Ziploc bags, no expiration dates that I can see though.

With that being said, the store is very heavy on the Japanese products and I haven't seen any other place around here that carries those items.

Not sure if the signs about not taking pictures is newer or not but there was a clear sign expressing she didn't want pictures taken in her store. Which, since it's her store, I think it's obvious that people should respect what she wants, or don't go.

The store owner was super nice and asked me about myself what I was making with the products I was buying, she mostly left me alone except for when I first walked in. She asked if I was looking for anything that she could help find.

All I can say is " The business has been there for at least 7 years that I know of". If the owner of he store don't want you snapping pics of her goods for sale, she has that right to ask you not to. Same as she has a right to boot your butt from the store if she wants. Prices are high, I will admit that. But, if you want hard to find Japanese groceries, this is really the only game n town. As for her dog, she is small and sleeps most of the time. Went in yesterday and the do never barked at me. Maybe the dog barks at self righteous entitled Aholes only. Haha!

If I could give zero stars, I would. As others have said, the "lady" at the front counter was one of the most unpleasant, unfriendly employees I have ever encountered! When we came in and said hello, she just glared at us.

My wife wanted to take a picture of a product that her brother overseas likes, and the woman yelled, "NO PICTURES!!"

We just looked at each other, shook our heads and headed for the door. As we were leaving, the woman's dog started going crazy at the counter, lunging for us and barking wildly. If she hadn't held it back, I have no doubt we would have gotten bit.

How this place is even in business is beyond me. The Korean place on N Wickham is big, clean, much bigger selection and nicer people. Go there. Avoid this place at all costs!

If I could give this place a zero Stars I would. I took a picture of the sweet potato kit Kats to send to my husband (they are his favorite and sweet potato is a joke between the two of us). I was curious if you would be interested in trying them so I just simply snapped a photo. Immediately was harassed and asked to leave by the lady running the place. It was my first time in there and I will never ever step foot back in there again. I am not new to this area and I know there are a thousand Asian food stores I don't mind going to the next one..... If I could warn other people to not go to this place just for the nastiness alone and the fact that they have pets inside.. save yourself the headache find a different Asian market. There are better ones
