With four active boys and as a retired RN from NIHD, I am very familiar with the many many quality services that this facility provides. The services have expanded a lot too over the years which gives locals better options that don’t involve having to drive hours north or south for appointments. Cardiology? Check. Urology, check. Telehealth services? Check. Orthopedics? Yep and a lot of people don’t realize how great and state of the art NIHDs Ortho, General, GYN, etc surgical services are. I’ve driven hours from out of town for ortho specifically. Need to deliver a baby? This is the only place for hundreds of miles set up for that. It was a great place to work but an even better place to receive care. I could go on and on with positive experiences and nice things to say about NIHDs quality of care and clinicians. Well done NIHD!

Went there for ekg due to high heart rate. They ended up charging me north of $5,000 for a 1 hour visit to the ER with no medication or additional services other than 1 chest xray and 1 ekg. I have a high deductible plan so am on the line for these outrageous costs.

February 22, 2023. Today I was scheduled for a colonoscopy at 9:45 AM. Check in time 8:45 AM. I was there by 8:30 at 9:05 a young lady named Kylie came out to tell me that they didn’t have a spot for me that they would come get me as soon as they did.
At 9:30 they came out to get me to take me into surgery prep. They asked all the same questions that the young lady that checked me in asked, put in an IV, and walked away. I sat there until 10:30 when a nurse came to connect the heat to my gown. I asked her how much longer it would be. She stated that it would probably be about 45 more minutes. That’s now 1-1/2 hours passed my scheduled surgery. I was told there had been a complication with the patient before me so things got behind. Understandable so I just sat there watching other patients being brought in and questioned. Nurses and techs kept coming by saying ā€œjust a bit longerā€, ā€œmaybe 30 more minutesā€, asking all the same questions again and again. I was visited by 2 different nurses who said they were ā€œmy surgery nursesā€. The female Emily I believe, said ā€œ30 more minutesā€ and the male Dan or Don, can’t quite remember said ā€œ10 more minutesā€. He was there at 10:55.
It was around 11:15 to 11:20 when I observed Dr Cromer-Tyler walked by me and go down to a patient that had been brought in an 1-1/2 hours after me. I heard her and the anesthesiologist talking to the patient. I heard the patient talking to the doctors.
At 11:30, now almost 2 hours past my scheduled time, a tall blonde came in and asked if the doctor had spoke with me. My answer was NO! She said there had been a change in the schedule. No explanation, just that I would have to wait even longer. When I became upset, she tried to say it the anesthesiologists fault. Then she said my appt wasn’t until 10:45! Not true. Just an FYI, I have a voicemail from the hospital to prove that 9:45 was my scheduled time. Then she started making ridiculous excuses one after another. I insisted that my IV be removed immediately and my clothes be brought to me. I asked her why the other patient was more important than myself and why he would get to jump the line and go in first? Another excuse.
All that miserable prep work for nothing!! NIH has horrible patient care, has no communication skills and is not transparent with what is happening to you.
I was warned and told to go to Mammoth for care. Wish I would have listened.

I was suffering from extreme pain and it felt like a condition I’ve suffered from in the past, diverticulitis. I was doubled over in pain so had to interrupt my weekend getaway to go to the ER here. Not a fun way to spend your holiday! But I was seen quickly, had a few diagnostic tests and released after about 2 and a half hours. The meds provided relief right away and I was able to finish up my holiday weekend as planned with a few adjustments.
I’m incredibly grateful for the helpful staff at the hospital who treated me kindly and with respect.

Went to the ER on Saturday August 10 2019. Excellent care from the nurses, staff, and from the ER Doctor. Very though and considerate for myself and my wife. Was there from 10 am until 3 pm. Felt much better after being treated than when I arrived. I was in very bad shape when I arrived. Very compassionate hospital. Excellent hospital!!!
