If you're coming in for a first time license, they make you wait in line at the front so they can check that you have all the documents needed and everything is correct. Despite this, be prepared to have the person actually processing your application try to say various documents aren't eligible. I was told that my voter's registration wasn't an eligible form of proof of residence because it expires every year, even though this is false and it clearly said "active". So, be prepared and maybe bring backup documents just to be safe.

On the other hand, I was done pretty quickly (under an hour) and it would have taken half that if the person helping me didn't keep wandering off or talking to other people.

With the online booking system, the wait time has been improved a lot. I made appointments for 4:30pm (about 20 days ago, that was the earliest spot I could get at this location). I arrived 10 to 15 mins earlier than the appointment time. Check in upon arrival, by the time I done fill up the form, just few more minutes I got call to the counter right away. Pretty close to my appointment time being seen. And the lady at counter 45 was very nice.
Advice is to book online before you come and arrive early. If you knew you need to renew the license, plan month ahead. Because the replacement needs 10 to 15 days also.

My experience here was not bad. Came in and checked in about 30mins earlier, filled my form and since I was renewing, waited for my number to be called. There were about 60 windows, which made the wait time not too long. I still waited for about an hour though before my number was called. The man who attended to me was very receptive and polite. The only thing I didn’t like was the card swipe machine that wasn’t working at my window. I had to go out and use the ATM. Aside that it was seamless.

I had an 8:15 am appointment, I was late and scared that they will cancel my appointment, but no! They were really nice, starting with the girl at the door, she was very helpful and nice. I was helped at window 49, and I couldn't be more grateful, that lady was super nice and gave me a great customer service! I had a really good experience there, I was there for an hour or less!!! 🙂

It has been a very long time since I have to go to a DPS to renew my license. But I had to this time and good thing I made an appointment online first. You simply scanned your appointment confirmation email at one of the computer at near the front entrance to check in for your appointment and then you can to either for the waiting area, and fill out your form. Be sure to pick up the right fill. Fill it out and wait and my appoint was right on time with Mrs. Karen at number 60 helping me out and then take a new photo for my ID. I was really impress by Karen's professional courtesy and her integrity that day.

Went in to renew my cdl, soon as i entered the building i was met by Ms Lawanda. She's a superstar, full of energy, always smiling and very informative. I really appreciated her whole energetic vibe and will be returning due to great customer service.

I had an appointment at 5:45pm on the confirmation email it said I had to be there no later than 30 minutes. I got tied up at work and wasn’t able to leave early. I pull up at 6:01pm granted I still had 15 minutes left for my appointment time. I understand it’s a federal building desk job of course they want to leave at 6pm on the dot. I walk up to the door at 6:01pm and an employee wagged his finger at me telling me no no no. Then proceeded to shut the metal gate in my face while watching me stand there. It was almost comical. Obviously I tired to call but there call lines are like 90% automated. I had drove 50 minutes to get there in traffic so I drove 50 mines back home. Biggest waste of gas, time ,and mental strength.

Now, I know what you’re thinking – with so many people coming and going, the wait time must be insane. But here’s the kicker – it’s not. Despite the hustle and bustle, the DPS team works like a well-oiled machine, ensuring that everyone gets in and out in a flash. And let’s not forget Amy, the photography wizard who always manages to capture my best angle with a smile on her face.

Overall, the Gessner location of Texas DPS is the epitome of efficiency and professionalism. Despite the crowds, the staff goes above and beyond to make every visit a breeze.
