I joined The Ukiah Coop in the early 70s. Yes, Ukiah Natural Foods is still cooperatively owned. I am member number 48. I remember when it was next to the railroad tracks and it was called The Homestead Exchange. We could order fruit trees, and get staples, like brown rice at a cheaper price.

When I visit Ukiah, I like to drop in to the "Coop" and see what is new or whom I might run in to. It is a great place to run into old friends if you become a regular.

I love that you can buy things in bulk, and bring your own container (and keep plastic out of landfills). They have bulk honey, oils, nuts, seeds, beans, herbs and spices, and even sell shampoo, and essential oils in bulk. They have beautiful displays of organic fruit and vegetables. You can buy prepared foods and eat inside their new dining area. Or get a really great coffee drink or smoothie.

If you don't live in the area, you might want to make a plan to drop by and see what you might find.

I love this store. So many great options for local food, organic food, vegan food. Produce, cheeses, frozen goods, oils, vinegar, coffees, teas..... Staff is so friendly! They have a large bulk section, too. This is such a great store!

Have you ever been to a co op? If so then you know, it's going to smell amazing inside, because the food inside is amazing. If you have dietary restrictions, you can eat out of this store with ease, at least I do.

Moderate sized grocery store with more than its size suggests. It has lots of good natural and vegan options and a modest but fresh produce section.

I was in the CO-OP the other day when I recognized one of the front end supervisors as a thief. I'm shocked that such a reputable place would hire a thief and liar such as her.
I honestly am surprised that such a reputable place would put me in such an uncomfortable position as to have such an unreputable person handling my credit card, or bank information.

Worth it to buy a membership. Organic food is expensive! Always check to see what's on sale.

Update: The store seems to be often out of sine items on outer shopping list. Saturdays especially. With prices so high it is getting harder and harder to afford the organic food we come here to buy.

The store is usually very busy. They expanded years ago now, and need more room.

It's a good idea to check out the least busy times and go then.

Going through Ukiah on my way up to Pilsberry's Trampatillian up on Glardhaven Ridge and just had to stop at Ukiah Natural Food! The Delicatessen is perhaps one of the best I've ever been to, the meats, breads and accompaniments are as fresh as could be. What ever I get is always Amazing! 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆
