Beautiful park! We went on a Sunday in the morning, from around 9:30-11:30. It appears they have weddings here frequently so keep this in mind when planning your trip as it impacts parking and crowds. We noticed the park started filling up as we left.
The park itself is absolutely gorgeous. It was a historic garden that is now maintained by the state, and there are signs detailing the history and connection with the old route of the A1A. The paths are easy to follow and well marked. Allows you to see a lot of different flora native to the area once you move past the garden section. We particularly loved the live oaks growing in the forest section of the park, and how they intertwined with palm trees and palm bushes. Amazing! Really helps you appreciate the unique habitat of Florida.

Note: Dogs are not allowed in the formal garden area or the beach.

There are several nice trails that are available to dogs. But if you want to see the formal gardens, you are not able to bring your dog. I wish that had been stated on the website, so I knew before I traveled 45 minutes. After my visit, I did look at the downloadable brochure that said, "Pets permitted in designated areas." Even that could be more clear as many people are coming for the garden.

The trails my dog and I visited were nice and the park staff were friendly.

This state park is has two sides: the gardens and the beach/rocks. Both sides are unique and enjoyable. The Southern Oaks are breathtaking on the garden side and worth the $5/car entry fee by themselves. Across the street is the beach, which is white sand with swirls of orange. It’s very beautiful against the dark rocs. We will visit again.

Washington Oaks Gardens State Park is a true hidden gem, offering a perfect blend of lush gardens and coastal beauty. In the spring, the azaleas burst into bloom, creating a vibrant display of color that makes the garden paths feel almost magical. The carefully maintained landscapes, with their towering oaks and charming stone pathways, provide a peaceful retreat for nature lovers.

Beyond the gardens, the Intracoastal Waterway offers its own kind of serenity. Watching dolphins frolic in the water adds an extra touch of wonder to the visit—it’s a reminder of just how special this place is. Whether you’re strolling through the gardens, taking in the water views, or enjoying a quiet moment on one of the park’s benches, Washington Oaks never disappoints.

A must-visit for anyone who loves gardens, wildlife, and a peaceful connection to nature!

This place was absolutely beautiful. The azaleas were in bloom and so colorful and it was such a very peaceful place. And then with a quick walk across the road you’re at a beach that’s like no other here in Central Florida. Absolutely breathtaking.

One of my favorite state parks in Florida! Never disappoints. Love the duality of the beach side vs the garden side. Such beautiful spaces and very relaxing.
If you want a relaxed day in a natural area, definitely visit. Super accessible for a wide range of people- appropriate for all ages. There's a small playground and picnic area as well as a little gift shop and plant sale area (not a daily plant sale but dates are posted).

This has always been a family favorite, been going there approximately 50+ years. Always well maintained and quiet. The picnic area is great for familycoutings and parties. Take a ride across the street to enjoy the large Coquina Rock that at low tide you can sometimes find some of the oceans small critter

For those of you who haven't been to washington oaks, It's both a place of historical significance for the area and a beautiful butterfly garden. Access to the intercoastal, as well as a beautiful beach on the opposite side with submerge rocks and beautiful tide pools. There are picnic areas. There's a plant sale once a month. There's a gift shop with some lovely things. Overall, it's a great place to spend some time in the Florida sun. It's a place of beautiful trails And the garden It's really something.
